Fort Portal City, Uganda – The Producers Guild Uganda (PGU) actively represented the film industry at the 6th Bi-Annual Presidential CEO Forum, a high-level two-day event convened in Fort Portal City. The forum brought together government ministries, departments, agencies, and private sector leaders to deliberate on strategic priorities for Uganda’s economic and social transformation. Speaking on behalf of PGU and the wider film industry, the President of PGU presented key proposals to strengthen the sector, emphasizing the urgent need for: Establishment of a National Film Policy and Film Commission. Development of a Film City and Regional Film Hubs to serve as centers for skills training, production, and exhibitions. Creation of a National Fund for capacity building and skills development to be facilitated by experienced PGU professionals. A National Fund for content creation to enable Ugandan producers to deliver high-quality films that can compete globally. Government intervention to streamline online monetisation of digital content platforms such as TikTok, Facebook, and YouTube, ensuring local creators can receive direct payments within Uganda. The forum was attended by senior representatives from the Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Gender, Ministry of ICT, Ministry of Works, Ministry of Finance, National Planning Authority, Uganda Tourism Board, Uganda Wildlife Authority, Uganda Airlines, Civil Aviation Authority, MTN Uganda, hospitality associations, tour companies, Eagle Air, State House, and various business leaders. Following the forum, the President of PGU is scheduled to present the same proposals to the Prime Minister of Uganda, sharing lessons from other African countries and underscoring the potential of Uganda’s film industry as a driver of cultural diplomacy, job creation, and global competitiveness.
