Membership

For the Producers of Film and Television Industry in Uganda.

The Producers Guild of Uganda offers several membership categories, designed to
accommodate a wide range of professionals in the creative industries and promote inclusivity,
collaboration, and professional development across different stages of a producer’s career. The
membership classes are:

  • Membership is annual(January to December ) and, except as provided herein, is open to
    individuals only, with a minimum of 2 qualifying producer credits in the following formats.
    1. Feature Length (Live Action & Animated)
    2. Short Films (Live Action & Animated)
    3. Series (Web, TV, Scripted & Unscripted )
    4. Documentaries (Short, Feature, Series, Animated, Live Action)
    5. Commercials
  • Honorary Members: Honorary membership is awarded to individuals who have made
    significant contributions to the Ugandan creative industry or the global film and television
    landscape. These members may include veteran producers, government officials, academics, or
    notable figures who have provided invaluable support to the development of Uganda’s creative
    economy. Honorary members do not hold voting rights
    but may serve in advisory roles and participate in Guild events and programs.
  • Corporate Members: Corporate membership is available to companies and organizations
    involved in media production, content distribution, or related services (such as post-production, sound design, or legal support). Corporate members play a crucial role in building industry
    infrastructure and may benefit from opportunities to collaborate with Guild producers, sponsor
    events, and access resources that foster innovation and business growth within Uganda’s
    creative sectors.
    Membership Fees-initial membership and annual subscription.
    To ensure that the Guild remains inclusive and accessible, the fee structure is designed based on
    flexibility and affordability of the members.
  • A one time access fee of Ushs. 50,000(Uganda Shillings Fifty Thousand) for every new
    member
  • An Annual Membership subscription fee of Ushs. 50,000 (Uganda Shillings Fifty Thousand)
  • Members accepted in the course of the year shall pay full annual membership fees.
  • Corporate and Sponsorship Opportunities: Corporate members may be offered tiered
    membership levels based on their level of involvement and contribution to the Guild’s activities.
    This could include options for sponsorship of events, access to a wider pool of talent, and
    strategic collaborations within Uganda and beyond. The initial Corporate
    annual Membership subscription fee shall be Ushs. 500,000 (Uganda Shillings Five Hundred
    Thousand)

Cessation of Membership

Any member shall cease to be a member of the Guild:

  1. If they are adjudicated bankrupt
  2. if they are found to be a lunatic or is medically certified as being of unsound mind;
  3. if they shall neglect for six months to pay their annual membership fees, or if they shall persistently neglect or refuse to pay any other monies which may be due from them to Guild but may be re-admitted at any meeting of the Governing Board by resolution and on paying their subscription or other dues in arrears.
  4. If they are convicted on indictment and imprisoned for any criminal offence involving
    dishonesty.
  5. in case of death of a natural person;
  6. in the case of a legal person, upon dissolution/liquidation;
  7. by giving notice; or
  8. by expulsion

Expulsion of Members

  1. The Executive Committee shall have disciplinary powers over all members and authorised
    representatives of members which powers shall be exercised in accordance with the provisions of (c) hereunder.
  2. Other than for the reasons listed in above hereof, the Executive Committee shall have power
    by resolution passed by a two-thirds majority of members present and voting to expel any
    member whose conduct in the opinion of such majority makes that member no longer acceptable
    as a member of the Guild.
  3. A member whose conduct is to be taken into consideration by the Guild shall receive fourteen
    clear days’ notice in writing, forwarded to them by registered post to their last known address
    registered with the  Guild and upon their giving notice in writing to the Secretary General of their intention to appear, shall be heard by the Executive Committee either in person or through their authorised agent. Alternatively and in addition, they may put in a written statement which shall be taken into consideration by the Executive Committee when dealing with the matter.
  4. Any Member who has been dealt with in accordance with the preceding paragraphs and found
    guilty may be expelled from PGU, fined, or have their accreditation cancelled or dealt with in any
    other manner considered appropriate by the Executive Committee.

Grievances

  • A Member who has a grievance against any officer of the Guild may, in writing petition the
    Executive Committee. A grievance shall involve an allegation of unjust or unfair treatment by any
    officer of the Guild against the member.
  • A Member aggrieved by or dissatisfied with the decision of the Executive Committee may,
    within seven days from the date of receipt of the decision of the Executive Committee appeal to
    a committee comprised of at least three Members of the Guild.
  • Where a Member has a grievance against the Executive Committee as a whole, all efforts shall
    be made to amicably settle the matter. Where all attempts at such amicable settlement fail, the grievance shall be presented to a special meeting of the General Assembly for discussion and redress.

Rights and Obligations

All members of the Guild are expected to adhere to its code of conduct and support the Guild’s
mission of promoting a sustainable and competitive Ugandan creative industry. Specific rights
and obligations for members include:

Producers Mark (p.g.u.):

Full members who meet the producing criteria and actively perform key production roles may apply for the Producers Mark (p.g.u.) certification. This mark will serve as a professional designation, verifying the producer’s qualifications and commitment to the standards of the Guild. It will help distinguish Uganda’s certified producers in the local and international markets and offer them enhanced credibility and recognition.

Office Eligibility:

Full members in good standing are eligible to hold office within the Guild’s organizational structure, including roles on the Executive Committee. Office holders are responsible for leading the Guild, guiding strategic initiatives, and representing the interests of producers at both the national and international levels.

Voting Rights:

Only members in good standing those who have paid their fees in full shall have the right to vote at the General Assembly meetings and participate in decision-making processes. Voting rights extend to elections for the Executive Committee, key policy decisions, and amendments to the Guild’s constitution. Voting will be a critical way for members to influence the direction and initiatives of the Guild

Participation in Events and Programs:

All members, regardless of their class, will be entitled to participate in the Guild’s various programs, including networking events, workshops, festivals, and industry collaborations. They will also have access to educational resources, exclusive content, and tools designed to help them grow professionally and increase their impact in the creative industries.
