FEATURE FILM
A feature film is a professionally produced motion picture with a running time of typically 70 minutes or longer, designed for theatrical release, festival exhibition, or streaming. Feature films are usually narrative-driven and can include genres such as drama, comedy, action, or animation.
PGU Requirement:
To qualify under this category, the applicant must have an individual producer credit on at least two (2) feature films released within the last three (3) years.
Each film must have received qualifying distribution, defined as one (1) of the following:
Cinema/Theatrical screening for at least one (1) week in two (2) major cities in East Africa (each with a population of 500,000+)
Commercial release on DVD, Blu-ray, or other physical media
Broadcast on national or regional television
Hosted on a major digital platform (e.g., YouTube with 100,000+ views, Netflix, Showmax, etc.)
Official selection in a recognized film festival (e.g., iKon Awards, Uganda Film Festival, AMAA, Zanzibar International Film Festival)
SHORT FILM
A short film is a motion picture with a total runtime of 40 minutes or less, including credits. Short films can be narrative, documentary, experimental, or animated, and are often used to showcase emerging talent or specific storytelling styles within a compact format.
PGU Requirement:
Applicants must have a producer credit on at least five (5) short films released in the last five (5) years.
Each film must meet at least one (1) of the following criteria:
Public screening in a cinema, cultural venue, or festival
Broadcast on national or regional TV
Uploaded on a verified digital platform (e.g., YouTube with significant views, Afro Mobile)
Selected by an accredited short film festival
EPISODIC TELEVISION (SCRIPTED)
This category refers to scripted television series made up of multiple episodes (typically 30 to 60 minutes long), which follow a consistent storyline or character arc. These include comedy or drama series that air in seasons on television or streaming platforms.
PGU Requirement:
Applicants must have a producer credit on at least eight (8) episodes of scripted television (series or limited series) released in the last five (5) years.
Each episode must be distributed through:
A recognized national or regional broadcaster (e.g., DSTV, NTV, UBC, Pearl Magic)
A verified streaming service (e.g., YouTube, Showmax, Netflix, GandaFlix)
Cable/satellite television available in Uganda or East Africa
NON-FICTION TELEVISION
Non-fiction television includes documentaries, reality shows, competition series, or factual programming. These programs are based on real people and events, and are produced in an episodic format, often with a thematic or storytelling focus across multiple episodes.
PGU Requirement:
Applicants must have a producer credit on at least twenty (20) non-fiction television episodes, each released in the last five (5) years.
Each episode must be distributed via:
National or regional TV
A major digital or cable platform
A streaming service available to the East African audience
NON-EPISODIC TELEVISION
This refers to non-scripted, regularly scheduled programs that are not structured as a traditional series with a seasonal narrative. Examples include talk shows, news broadcasts, game shows, and morning shows, which typically air on a daily or weekly basis and follow a consistent production format.
PGU Requirement:
Applicants must have a producer credit on at least 100 episodes released in the last five (5) years, with episodes broadcast at least five (5) times weekly.
Each must be distributed via:
A national or local TV station
A widely accessed online or streaming platform
Cable or satellite channels covering Uganda or East Africa
SPECIAL EVENT TELEVISION
Special event television covers one-time or annually recurring televised events, such as award shows, live concerts, national ceremonies, and major broadcast specials. These programs are usually produced for live or timed release and often involve large-scale production and broadcast planning.
PGU Requirement:
Applicants must have a producer credit on at least two (2) special event television programs, each with a minimum runtime of 90 minutes, released within the last five (5) years.

National TV broadcast
Major streaming platform
Regional cable or digital broadcast with wide public access
DIGITAL SHORT FORM
Digital short form refers to professionally produced short videos designed specifically for online platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, or streaming services. These projects are usually between 5 and 15 minutes in length and include web series, mini-documentaries, or online specials intended for digital-first audiences.
PGU Requirement:
Applicants must have at least 3 hours of cumulative digital content, produced from five (5) or more unique projects, released in the last five (5) years.
Each project must:
Be published on a major digital platform (e.g., YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, Vimeo)
Maintain professional production quality
Include a clear producer credit
VIDEO GAME
This category includes the production of video games across major platforms (e.g., console, PC, mobile). A qualifying video game producer is involved in the full lifecycle of game development, including creative, technical, and production management aspects of launching interactive entertainment experiences.
PGU Requirement:
Applicants must have a producer credit on at least two (2) video games released in the last seven (7) years, published on platforms including:
PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo Switch
PC (including Steam or Epic Games Store)
Android/iOS (commercially released titles)
VR platforms (e.g., Oculus, SteamVR)
IMMERSIVE MEDIA
Immersive media refers to interactive storytelling experiences created using technologies like Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and Extended Reality (XR). These projects are designed to engage audiences through spatial environments and are often distributed through VR headsets or exhibited at immersive events and installations.
PGU Requirement:
Applicants must have a producer credit on eligible immersive experiences released in the last five (5) years, meeting one (1) of the following:
Two (2) VR/AR projects exhibited through platforms like Meta Quest, Steam, or VIVEPORT
Two (2) immersive experiences showcased as long-term exhibits with 10,000+ attendees
Three (3) or more exhibited at short-term events with 5,000+ attendees
Five (5) publicly exhibited experiences with at least 500 audience members each
Official seection in an immersive or interactive media festival
