Ugandan filmmakers Mathew Nabwiso, President of the Producers Guild of Uganda (PGU), and his wife, award-winning actress and producer Eleanor Nabwiso, continue to raise Uganda’s flag high on the global stage.

This week, the couple attended the prestigious International Emmy Awards gala in New York, marking another major step forward in their growing involvement with global film institutions. Mathew, now a member of the International Emmy Committee, joined other industry leaders from around the world at the event, positioning Uganda within influential international creative networks.
While in New York, the Nabswiso duo were also hosted at the Uganda Permanent Mission to the United Nations. They met with Ambassador Duncan Muhumuza, Deputy Permanent Representative Ambassador Kwoba, and Minister Counsellor Celia Nabeta, holding what Mathew described as an insightful and supportive conversation about the Producers Guild of Uganda and the broader vision for the Ugandan film industry.

The ambassadors also emphasised the need for other Ugandan missions across the world to follow suit in partnering with filmmakers and amplifying Uganda’s cultural footprint. Later that evening, the Nabwisos attended the International Emmys gala alongside Minister Counsellor Celia Nabeta, proudly representing Uganda at one of the biggest nights in global television.
